An interesting statist about electoral results in Chiniot is that none of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate has ever succeeded from here. Even the candidates who were considered strong suffered defeat upon contesting the election from PML-N platform.
In 1997 elections, when PML-N got two-third majority across the country, it had to face defeat from Chiniot. The scrawniness of the party in the district can be determined with the fact that its candidates even received less than one thousand votes on several occasions.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has also suffered defeat after contesting election at the ticket of PML-N.
Like previous elections, the fortune is unlikely to change for Nawaz Sharif in the forthcoming general elections, and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as strongest party here.
