14 killed by blaze overflowing landslides in Mexico

In eastern Mexico more than dozen people have died due to mudslides caused by heavy rain.

On hillsides Veracruz state 13 people were killed when mud surrounded their homes. In neighboring Oaxaca one man was drowned after being swept away by fast flowing flood water.

 On Monday, Fernand made landfall near the Atlantic port city of Veracruz. Storm faded as it moved north-west.

In Oaxaca damages had caused 10% of highways and major roads, said a spokesman. Veracruz governor Javier Duarte has delved federal government to assert an emergency in 92 municipalities to receive recovery funds.

Noemi Guzman, the director of Veracruz Civil protection, said that 300 people have been moved to housings.

Fernand had crowded winds of 85km/h (50mph) when it made landing but faded quickly once it hit the land-living, said the (US) National Hurricane Center.

The season goes from 1 June to 1 November. Tropical storm Fernand had started off as a tropical storm before weakening to a tropical depression. It was the fifth named storm of this year’s Atlantic Hurricane season.
